The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die is a British historical drama film directed by Edward Bazalgette and written by Martha Hillier, based on Bernard Cornwell's The Saxon Stories. It serves as a sequel and climax to the television series The Last Kingdom. Alexander Dreymon, Harry Gilby, Mark Rowley, Arnas Fedaravicius, Cavan Clerkin, James Northcote, Ross Anderson, Ilona Chevakova, Rod Hallett, Ewan Horrocks, and Steffan Rhodri return as series regulars. The film will be available on Netflix on April 14, 2023.
Plot :-
Anlaf, a Viking king from Ireland, arrives in Northumbria with his army after discovering that Edward, King of the Anglo-Saxons, is gravely ill. Edward dies soon after, leaving three sons, none of whom are named as his aetheling. Lady Eadgifu and Edmund, Edward's youngest son, fled to Bebbanburg, where Edward's former buddy Uhtred lives. Despite his retirement from combat, Uhtred learns that Edward's eldest son Aethelstan is planning to attack his younger brother Aelfweard and devises a strategy to stop him. Before Uhtred departs, Ingrith declares that "seven kings must die" before England can be united.
Uhtred arrives in Aegelesburg, where Aelfweard is preparing to repel Aethelstan's approaching attack. Aethelstan and his advisor Ingilmundr come quickly and foil Aelfweard's plan. Uhtred persuades Aelfweard to submit peacefully, but Aethelstan assassinates him and slaughters his troops. Aethelstan is crowned Saxon King, and Ingilmundr, Aethelstan's secret lover, begs him to fulfill his grandfather's aim of uniting England and all Christians.
